Scarlett Johansson Turns Down Marine Ball Invite

Scarlett Johansson Turns Down Marine Ball Invite

Now that every soldier with an iPhone has decided to invite a celebrity to the Marine Corps Ball, we can't expect them all to say yes -- but Scarlett Johansson has shown how to say "no" with class. Johansson was asked to the event by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams, who was no doubt inspired by the successful efforts of his fellow Marines to bring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake. Watch Williams' YouTube video below!

"Recently I noticed in the media that a lot of Marines have been asking celebrities to the ball," says Sgt. Williams, as he gets dressed while "Eye of the Tiger" plays in the background. "So I was thinking, if I could ever ask anybody to the ball, who would it be? I mean, obviously they need to be beautiful, classy... who would it be?"

The video then cuts to a photo of Johansson in an evening gown, as the song "When A Man Loves a Woman" begins to play. Cute!

Though the 26-year-old actress declined his invitation, she was obviously charmed by the video -- and sent him a token of her affection, in the form of fancy champagne!

"I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams," Johansson declared in a statement. "Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for filmmaking."

She then addressed her would-be date directly. "Sgt. Williams unfortunately, due to prior commitments, I will not be able to attend the ball with you this year, but I am sending you a case of Moët and Chandon with gratitude," writes the actress. "In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the U.S. Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation."

Okay, so Sgt. Williams doesn't get to make an entrance with his movie-star crush -- but a personal message and a case of champagne is a pretty sweet consolation gift!

Kunis was the first celebrity to take the YouTube bait, and the actress says she has cleared her schedule to attend the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, N.C. Her Friends with Benefits costar Timberlake, who pressured Kunis into saying "yes," has also tentatively accepted an invitation from a female Marine in Virginia to attend the ball in Washington, D.C.

But Johansson isn't the first celeb to decline, either. Betty White, who was asked to the ball by Sgt. Ray Lewis, sweetly sent her regrets earlier this month. However, in a twist of fate, another celebrity has offered to take her place: Terminator star Linda Hamilton! Watch her very funny reverse-invitation to Sgt. Lewis below. As of right now, he hasn't responded -- but who would turn down a date with the woman who helped Arnold Schwarzenegger save the world?

Ashton Kutcher in New Two and a Half Men Promo

Ashton Kutcher in New Two and a Half Men Promo

Ashton Kutcher is fitting in just fine on the set of Two and a Half Men, as Charlie Sheen's replacement has taken his rightful place behind the show's familiar microphone. Fans of the show will recognize the set up of the new promotional poster, as Kutcher joins costars Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones in front of the red curtain used in the original opening.

The biggest difference (besides the lack of Sheen and the addition of Kutcher)? Ashton moved into the middle spot where Jones used to stand, and the Men newcomer is sporting the red bowtie that once also belonged to his younger costar.

The revamped version of the CBS show premieres on Sept. 19, as the fate of Sheen's character has yet to be revealed. Recent reports speculate that he may be killed off. The details behind the appearance of Kutcher's character are also being kept under wraps.

Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men, in March after a pretty public battle with the show's creator Chuck Lorre, and a bunch of questionable incidents that had plenty of people raising their eyebrows at Sheen's behavior. Sheen has now signed on to star in the new series Anger Management.

"I chose Anger Management because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept," Sheen said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com. "It also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth."

Kristin Cavallari Denies Accusing Jay Cutler Of Faking It: Sports WAG of the Week

Our Sports WAG of the Week fittingly is Kristin Cavallari. Okay, technically she’s not a Sports WAG anymore but whatevs. The reality star and now ex-fiance of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has had herself quite the hellish week. And that’s probably putting it mildly. The former Laguna Beach star is denying rumors that she said her ex faked his knee injury earlier this year during the NFC championship game against the Green Bay Packers. They lost 21-14, and Cutler came under fire for not putting his big boy pants on and returning to the game. In defense of Cutler, an x-ray revealed he had a torn MCL. This is the latest that Cavallari has had to deal with after the couple’s engagement was called off (with Cutler doing the dumping) just days after their engagement party and pics from a photoshoot Cavallari shot last week trying on wedding dresses surfaced on Wednesday. HollywoodLife alleged that Cavallari claimed Cutler faked his knee injury earlier this year which led to the reality star taking to Twitter and vehemently denying she said such a thing. “I never said ANYTHING about jays knee injury. I’ve always backed him 100%. Stop trying to start [...]

HGTV, LA and Dining Room Tables

I've been watching a lot of HGTV since coming to LA. My favorite shows are House Hunters and House Hunters International. There's also another show I like to watch called For Rent, but only because it makes me angry.

When it comes to apartments/homes, I think living in New York for the past eleven years has made me bitter because there was this whiny broad on For Rent a few nights ago who was looking at a huge place—A HUGE PLACE—and was like, "There's no place for a dining room table..."

B*TCH, YOU'RE LUCKY TO GET A KITCHEN IN NEW YORK.

I hated her.

Now there's some stupid lady on House Hunters who wants a townhouse with a fireplace that she can turn on with a light switch. IT HAS TO BE A LIGHT SWITCH because she doesn't want to bend down and flip a switch on the floor.

WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE?

Anyway, I know my LA update is WAY overdue (and truth be told I wrote a long one last week but for some reason it didn't save so I lost the whole thing and I was so angry that I just said, "Ah, f*ck it," and closed the computer instead of rewriting) but to give you a quick update, I AM SO HAPPY HERE. I MEAN, I'M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY. And I think living here and watching HGTV—both of these things combined—has made me realize that New York was just beating me down. I mean, the fireplace lady—yes, she's an idiot. But there's nothing wrong with wanting a dining room table. Why did I get so mad at that lady?

Since being here, at least once a day I ask myself why I have lived in New York for so long. (It's like I had Stockholm Syndrome or something.) CALIFORNIA IS AWESOME. It's like the promised land. It's sunny all the time and there are birds and flowers everywhere. I have space out here. I have a sofa on the patio out here. I HAVE A SOFA OUTSIDE. I haven't seen one rat since I've been here. But hummingbirds? THEY ZIP BY MY HEAD EVERY DAY. I am so happy.

I'm supposed to go back to New York in November, but truth be told, I'm not sure I will.

Adam Lambert's 'Whole Lotta Love': The Story Behind The Cover

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off Led Zeppelin's 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again."

That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on "American Idol" rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon.

For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997.

Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction.
