A great smile is a teen's best asset because it provides confidence no matter what she is doing – from performing in a school play to taking Facebook photos, playing sports or just hanging out with friends. Straightening teeth to promote good oral health and providing your child with a smile she can be proud of will benefit her today and well into the future.

If your child admires certain celebrities, in part because of their radiant smiles, you might be interested to know she can easily follow the same steps to smile success that many young stars today do. Anyone who performs, competes or just wants to smile with confidence should consider the following tips:

1. Floss for healthy teeth and gums
Flossing daily will help teens have healthier teeth and a more radiant smile. Flossing is especially important in cases where teeth are crowded because it helps remove the plaque between teeth that regular brushing does not remove. After flossing, consider using a fluoride mouthwash to help kill germs and keep tooth enamel strong. Busy teen tip: Small travel toothbrushes and floss make cleaning easy for teens on the go – simply slip into a backpack or sports bag.

2. Regular dentist visits make a difference
Being proactive is the best defense against decay, cavities and other health issues. To keep a healthy smile, teens should visit their dentist once every six months for a cleaning. If your teen’s teeth require straightening, schedule a consultation with an orthodontist to discuss various treatment options.

3. Teeth can be straightened without almost anyone knowing
What do actresses Bailee Madison and Ciara Bravo and band mates Nathan Darmody, Cameron Quiseng and Michael Martinez from Allstar Weekend have in common? They’re all straightening their teeth by using Invisalign Teen.

These clear aligners are nearly invisible, so treatment is inconspicuous, making it easier for teens to "fit in" rather than call attention to their mouth. "I wear my Invisalign everywhere I go and no one ever notices them, but they do notice the difference in my smile," says Madison, who is in Invisalign treatment with her mom and sister.

Removable aligners
allow teens to continue their favorite activities such as playing sports and musical instruments – activities that can be challenging or uncomfortable with traditional metal braces. Dr. Gilbert Snow, who treats top teen celebrities, explains how Invisalign works: "A series of custom aligners are created just for your teeth. Throughout the course of treatment, you will be required to wear these clear, removable aligners one at a time; each one moving your teeth closer to their final, aligned position."

4. Whitening treatments can make a difference

Typically, teens are not known for great eating habits and this can affect their teeth's health and color. Soda, coffee, fruit juices and certain foods can damage enamel and over the years, stain teeth so they appear more yellowed or browned. Having a white smile is important to teens, so consider limiting colored drinks and foods that are highly acidic, or brush and floss teeth afterwards. Some whitening treatments may be an option, but discuss with your dentist or orthodontist first.

A confident smile is one of life’s best assets no matter what you do. Your teen can have a great smile, just like their favorite celebrities, simply by following these smart oral health tips.

'It's kinda lame when someone you met briefly comments on you,' he tweeted after 'CSI' star's interview.

Justin Bieber apparently reads what people say about him. On Monday (May 9), he took to Twitter to react to comments by "CSI" star Marg Helgenberger, who called him a "brat."

"I probably shouldn't say this, but he was kind of a brat," Helgenberger said in an interview with French radio show Le Grand Direct des Medias on Friday when asked about the teen phenom's time on the set.

She continued, offering specific examples from when Bieber filmed guest appearances on "CSI." "He locked one of the producers in a closet," she said. "And he put his fist through a cake that was on the craft services table."

Bieber's response? "It's kinda lame when someone you met briefly and never worked with comments on you. I will continue to wish them luck and be kind. #killemwithkindness," he wrote. "Even last week they had me scolded on a plane in the news because i wasnt in my seat fast enough. She was right and i sat down. That's news? I know who i am and sometimes people r just going 2 say what they want. Keep ur head up and be the man ur mama raised. #killemwithkindness.

"Rumors are just that ... rumors," Bieber continued. "In the end if you just be kind and be yourself people will know who you are. That goes for anyone i think. as for now ... we are in the JUNGLE!! Dont spread gossip and dont spread rumors about others ... im a kid and i know that. #respect."

He then tweeted a link to a video clip of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" from "The Lion King."

Reps for both Bieber and "CSI" had not responded to MTV News' request for comment by press time.

MTV News spoke to "CSI" producer Carol Mendelsohn last year, after Bieber had taped his first appearance on the show. (He appeared again earlier this year.) She had only kind words about the actor.

"I thought that he did a really good job. We only had Justin for a day, for 10 and a half hours, and he had a lot of work crammed into those 10 and a half hours," she said, adding, "It's hard for any accomplished, mature actor to come on the set and fall right into character and do your work, so kudos to Justin."

¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?

Russell Brand Deported from Japan Before Katy Perry Concert

Russell Brand Deported from Japan Before Katy Perry Concert

We're sure that comedian Russell Brand was booted from plenty of places during his hard-partying days -- but now that he's sober, he's been kicked out of an entire country. On Sunday, Brand, 35, was deported from Japan, where he had flown to be with his wife Katy Perry during her California Dreams tour. On her Twitter account, Perry explained that he'd been banned from the country for "priors from over 10 years ago!"

"So...my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so. sad," the 26-year-old pop singer tweeted. "I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place #tokyodreamscrushed"

The singer jokingly started a campaign to "Free @RustyRockets!" (Brand's Twitter name), but was quick to reassure fans that she would still be playing her scheduled shows in Nagoya on Sunday, Tokyo on Monday and Tuesday, and Osaka on Thursday.

"I (heart) my Japanese fans & the show #MUSTGOON no matter the daily aftershocks or husband kidnappings! #it'snotrightbutit'sokay," Perry wrote.

We're sure Katy's hubby wasn't too happy, either -- but being Russell Brand, he faced the situation with a sense of humor.

"Planning escape from Japanese custody," Brand tweeted. "It's bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick."

On Sunday morning, Brand posted a picture of himself emerging from the ground -- chopstick in hand. "Alcatraz! Shawshank Redemption! And now this!" he wrote. "Ah, sweet bird of freedom!"

Brand was reportedly denied entry into the island nation because of his criminal record, which includes an arrest last September for allegedly attacking a paparazzo. Though he's been sober since 2002, Brand also has 11 arrests accumulated during his years as a heroin addict. Japan has strict laws about allowing criminals into the country, and celebrities are no exception: In September of last year, Paris Hilton was forbidden from entering the country because of her recent drug conviction.

R&B superstar Usher announced Friday (March 4) that he was donating to various charities proceeds from appearing at a private event at St. Barts linked to Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, according to a statement made to the Associated Press.

The Grammy award winner's renouncement comes after similar announcements from singers Mariah Carey, Nelly Furtado, and Beyoncé, all of whom were revealed to have performed at private concerts linked to the Middle Eastern leader, who has faced open revolt and major political uprisings since February.

"I am sincerely troubled to learn about the circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St. Bart's event that took place on New Year's Eve 2009," Usher said of the concert, at which he appeared alongside Beyoncé but did not perform. "I will be donating all of my personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organizations."

Usher has already begun the process, having made a donation to Amnesty International, the AP reports. The exact size of the donation is not known.

The New Year's Eve gig was reportedly for Moammar's fourth son Muastassim, who an unnamed music industry source told MTV News has a history of throwing lavish parties "jammed" with supermodels.

Beyoncé, who sang at the event, donated all proceeds from her performance to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, established in the wake of the Haitian earthquake.

"All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year's Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti over a year ago," the "Halo" singer's publicist said in a statement to The Huffington Post. "Once it became known that the third-party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause."

Singer Nelly Furtado tweeted February 28 that she plans to make similar amends.

"In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Gadhafi clan to perform a 45 min. show for guests at a hotel in Italy," she tweeted. "I am going to donate the $."

The leader of Libya since a successful military coup in 1969, Gadhafi has reportedly lost control of much of his country as a result of widespread uprisings. The United Nations voted unanimously to refer the dictator to the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
