Bono: Hitchhiking in Vancouver

A leisurely stroll turned into a rain-soaked ordeal for Bono when he was in Vancouver, Canada recently.
The ?Where the Streets Have No Name? singer and his assistant were picked up on the side of the road by Gilbert Brule, an Edmonton Oilers hockey player, and his girlfriend Kelsey Nichols.
Nichols told press she wasn?t keen on picking them up at first. ?I said no, we?re not picking up a hitchhiker. We?re going to die. There?s no way.?
But Gilbert won out and the stopped on the side of the road to give the U2 frontman a lift. Bono shared, "He was very cool- a very modest man. He said, 'Where do you want to go?' And I said, 'Just take me to where The Edge is.'"
At his gig the following night, Bono declared, "I like ice hockey, because people who play ice hockey are the kind of people who pick up hitchhikers. I know this from personal experience.?
